02. What is source code?

So in the previous lesson I used the phrase “source code” and “computer instructions“. Those two phrases refer to how you tell a computer what to do. We normally write source code into a file of some kind and then the computer reads that file and does what we asked of it. Here is an example of some source code:

Some sample VB.NET source code

Some sample VB.NET source code

This is some code written in a computer programming language called Visual Basic.NET, you can see it has all sorts of words and symbols that may mean very little to you.

At this stage of your programming journey you just need to be aware that for us to get a computer program to do what we want, we need to learn the language that the computer will understand.
